UPDATE:
Both the Burklow Pharmacy in Pace and the Jay Pharmacy reopened on Wednesday morning following an unexpected visit from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement which temporarily closed their businesses on Tuesday.
Both businesses including the Physician Specialty Pharmacy in Pensacola were visited by the FDLE on Tuesday morning. A phone call to the Pensacola pharmacy was not immediately returned. However representatives from both the Jay Pharmacy and Burklow Pharmacy were able to comment adding their business operations are back to normal.
"We are open today and we are fully cooperating with the FDLE, said Tiffany Steadham, a pharmacy technician at Jay Pharmacy. "We are good to go."
Steve Burklow, the owner of Burklow Pharmacy, shared the same sentiment adding the raid and temporary closure of his business has to deal with compound prescriptions.
According to the Food and Drug Administration website, compounding prescriptions deals with the alteration or compounding of prescription medication for an individual which are not FDA approved.
Burklow said Tuesday's raid could also be in relation to his pharmacy's business arrangement with Physician Specialty Pharmacy. Burklow said he and his attorney are looking into the matter and have filed a lawsuit against the Pensacola pharmacy five months ago.
Like the Jay Pharmacy, Burklow said he along with staff are cooperating with law enforcement on the matter and are currently maintaining regular hours of operation.
"We had a staff meeting this morning and everybody is on board," Burklow said. "Our customers have been 100 percent behind us."
Officials with the FDLE are not commenting on the situation at this time and did not give a time frame as to when they will release information in this investigation as it is ongoing.
Our publication will continue to update this information as it becomes available.
Original story:
Law enforcement agencies are currently on scene at the Burklow Pharmacy on Woodbine Road in Pace. In addition to telling customers the pharmacy was closed on Tuesday morning, Officers were seen removing boxes of items from the business. As soon as our publication receives any further information, we will be sure to pass it along.
A Public Information Officer with the FDLE describes this only as an "active operation" and said if anything comes out from this, news would come from the US Attorney's office in the northern district. As of this update at 1:22 p.m., the US Attorney's office has "no public information."
In October of 2013, the Press Gazette shared this article about law enforcement investigating the same pharmacy.
