Patriots' Oxford signs football scholarship with Millsaps College

Ty Oxford of Pace High School holds a Millsaps College jersey after signing a football scholarship to play football for the Majors following his PHS tenure. Oxford led the Patriots in receiving this past season 34 receptions, 646 yards and three touchdowns.

After being a huge asset on offense for the Pace Patriot football team, Ty Oxford will take his wide receiver talent to Millsaps College after signing a football scholarship.

“I just want to get in there and earn that starting position and hopefully help them get some championships,” Oxford said. “They expect me to have a big impact.”

Oxford definitely made an impact with the Patriots this past season by leading the offense in receiving with 34 catches, 646 yards and three touchdowns.

Since playing at a varsity level since his sophomore year, Oxford could only thank the players around him for his success.

“My  (offensive) line and my quarterback, I could not have done without them,” he said.

Jerad Dampson, wide receiver coach for the Patriots, believes Oxford will be a welcome addition to the MillsapsCollege football team based on how he performed for the Patriots this past year.

“He has got lots of potential and lots of talent,” Dampson said. “He really stepped it up as a senior by basically being there and being the go-to receiver.”

With a size advantage at 6’3” weighing 190 pounds, Dampson said Oxford provided a deep threat in several key games this past season.

“You could put the ball anywhere you want and he will go out there and get it,” Dampson said. “He was able to make the plays which would ignite the offense.”

In addition to contributing on the football field, Oxford is also looking into earning a degree in physical therapy. He is also looking to apply what he has learned from Pace towards Millsaps.

“I have learned how to be a good team member and how to work hard and give a 100 percent,” he said.
