Things to do: Weekend activities include The Warrior Ride, Pool shooting with Okinawa Slim, and a Black History month event

The Tour de Sunshine of The Warrior Ride is happening in Santa Rosa County this weekend from Feb. 25 through 27. The adaptive bicycle ride support wounded military veterans through the nonprofit organization, whose mission is to rehabilitation injured military veterans.

Wounded military veterans are invited to take part in an adaptive cycling event which will take place in Santa RosaCounty, starting Thursday, Feb. 25 through 27. All veterans and service people are invited to participate on Thursday and Friday, while residents are invited to join in on Saturday’s event. Thursday’s event begins at 8 a.m.at the MiltonInn and Suits, located at 8936 Highway 87. Friday’s event starts at 8 a.m. at the VFW Post 4833 in Milton, located 5918 Carroll Road. Saturday’s registration is open from 8 to 9 a.m., the ride begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Blackwater Bistro, located at 5147 Elmira St. For more information and to register online, visit the thewarriorride.org. 

‘Okinawa Slim’ visit’s Oops Alley

The Escarosa north American Pool Shooters Association present Okinawa Slim, known for exhibiting trick shots on the pool table. He will be performing clinicals and signing autographs at Oops Alley, located at 3721 U.S. Highway 90 in Pace. Come also for game challenges and door prizes. Adults are invited Saturday, Feb. 27 from noon to 6 p.m. Junior and youth players are invited for Sunday, Feb. 28 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Members of the pool shooters association can get in for $15, $20 for the general public, $5 for youth and juniors. “Black History: As seen on TV” a celebration of Black sitcoms

The Fellowship Churches of Santa Rosa County Inc., will present their annual Black History Program at the Milton High School Auditorium on Saturday. With the theme of “Black History: As Seen On TV,” this year’s program will showcase four well-known American television sitcoms including “Good Times,” “Sanford and Son,” “The Jeffersons” and “Martin.”  Each skit features local actors and actresses depicting favorite characters from those sitcoms. Adaptations have been made to classic episodes to call attention to issues affecting the Black community today.  In addition, special music will be provided by Milton’s Black History Celebration Choir.  Story time at Barnes & Noble celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday

Every Wednesday and Saturday morning  at 11 a.m., The Barnes & Noble location in Pensacola host a free story time event for children ages two through seven. Each event includes activity and crafts. On Saturday, story time will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s upcoming birthday in which children can pin the tail on Horton and decorate their own “Cat in the Hat” hat.  For more information on the event, contact Barnes and Noble at (850) 969-9554.
