They came for the celebrities. They came for the panels. They came to game, and to buy comics and other gear. However, one Pensacon 2016 attendee, Duel Christian, captured the spirit of Pensacon saying “The biggest reason for coming is to be among my kind of people, my tribe.”
Pensacon officials used the term “campus” to describe the setup for this year’s convention and celebration of all nerd culture. The Pensacola Bay Center and Crowne Plaza Hotel remained staples of the convention experience with the Saenger Theatre and Rex Theatre added to list of locations. Vinyla Music Hall also held a Rocky Horror Picture Show tribute. Several businesses, such as the Fish House, Play, Beef O’Brady’s and more joined in the spirit with themes and deals relating to specific comic convention-related movies and shows.
Santa Rosa County represented this year at the con with the City of Milton Mayor Wesley Meiss and his wife as well as the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Director Julie Morgan and her boyfriend attending. Doublewolf Costumes and Props and Madman’s Shipyard (a 3d printing company) both from Milton were at the convention. Ricky Wallace of Madman’s Shipyard held a panel, as well, on 3d printing.
