GPS device leads to arrest of Pensacola man in Pace vehicle burglaries

Information obtained from GPS monitoring has connected Pensacola resident James Scott Martin, 44, to a string of vehicle burglaries which occurred in a Pace neighborhood in March of last year.

According to warrant documents attained from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, at least eight vehicles were broken into around the Nobility Court and Governors Street areas of Pace in the early morning hours of March 14, 2015.

Many of the vehicle interiors were apparently ‘ransacked’ and items including money, a billfold and wallet, CD’s, a jacket and a high valued pair of sunglasses were stolen.

One vehicle reportedly had a damaged interior door handle. In several cases, items originally left inside the vehicles by the owners were found outside underneath the parked automobiles. Suspected blood was found within one of the burglarized vehicles and tested by deputies, according to a warrant.

Deputies looked into Martin, who was discovered to be wearing a GPS monitor around the time of the burglaries. The requested historical data of the monitor revealed Martin had been in front of several addresses in the residential area at the time of the burglaries.

When interviewed by investigators, Martin denied burglarizing the vehicles in the area.

The SRSO documentation also revealed Martin had previously been convicted of two counts of grand theft in 1996 along with petit theft in 1996, 1997 and 2004.

Martin remains incarcerated at the Santa Rosa County Jail.
