The members of the local Star Trek fan club, the USS Harry Mudd, celebrated their love of the science fiction show, comradery and raised $500 for a Milton charity at a regional conference Feb. 26-28.
The conference, or summit, was held in Navarre as a meeting of various chapters from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The summit, which drew about 40 attendees, was hosted by the USS Harry Mudd and featured a charity auction, club meetings, games, an awards ceremony and special dinner.
“We had a great time at this year’s regional summit,” said the group’s leader Bruce Dolan. “These events are about coming together to enjoy friendships, revel in a common interest and discover new ones.”
A check for $500 was presented during closing ceremonies of the summit to Liz Gibson of For the Children of Milton to help in its mission to build a facility for homeless children.
“For the Children is our adopted charity and many of our events are to benefit it,” explained Dolan. “We are so happy and honored to be a part of this noble cause to help our community.”
