Detective Stephen Mistovich of the Milton Police Department said warrants are forthcoming following a string of 24 car burglaries which occurred on Saturday night. Mistovich said the department has narrowed down the list of suspects to three individuals.
A majority of the car burglaries, a total of 13, occurred in the residential area of Lakeshore Drive. Residents in the Hannah Street, Outer Drive, along Northrop Road and Sellars Drive also reported vehicle burglaries. Mistovich said a variety of items were reportedly taken from the vehicles from loose change to personal paperwork and a camera.
Evidence has been collected by police in these cases including neighborhood surveillance video footage, Mistovich said.
Mistovich said each vehicle burglary case involved an unlocked vehicle.
“There was no forced entry in any of (the cases),” Mistovich said. “These are young people who are walking the streets at night, going into subdivisions and it is just so easy for them.”
Mistovich estimated nine out of ten car burglaries involve unlocked vehicles. In addition to securing vehicles, Mistovich recommends removing valuable items from inside the vehicles and securing them elsewhere.
If a resident has any information regarding the string of vehicle burglaries, they are encouraged to contact Det. Mistovich by calling the Milton Police Department at 983-5423.
