PENSACOLA — Two Pensacola State College students have been named 2016 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Scholars.
Kimberly Bogers is one of 50 students honored as a Silver Scholar; Tammy Sutton is one of 50 students honored as a Bronze Scholar out of 1,900 applicants nationwide. The recognition, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, includes a $1,250 scholarship for each Silver Scholar and a $1,000 scholarship for each Bronze Scholar.
Boggers graduates in May and, this fall, will begin her junior year at the University of Central Florida, working on a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s vice president for public relations and is an award winning writer, photographer and editor on The Corsair student newspaper staff. She was named the Florida College System Activities Association Publications Division Student of the Month for March.
Sutton graduated magna cum laude from PSC in December and is now at the University of West Florida majoring in social work. She was an active PTK volunteer on the Milton campus, particularly with the Lumberjack Festival, Craft Fair and gathering cards and socks for military veterans. Her community involvement includes founding Courage to Tell, an educational outreach for the prevention of child abuse, and speaking at symposiums on human trafficking each fall.
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society administers the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Program. Colleges may submit no more than two nominations per campus for this award.
Selection as a Coca-Cola Scholar is based on scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition. A panel of judges also considers outstanding academic rigor, grade point average, academic and leadership awards, and engagement in college and community service.
