PACE — Nathan Harshany, a senior at Pace High School, plans to take his basketball talents to the United States Coast Guard Academy after signing a full-ride scholarship and a five-year commitment.
Harshany answered some questions about his time with the Patriots and his decision to join the U.S. Coast Guard.

Why did you sign with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy?
It kind of started my freshman year; I was looking at all of the academies and the Coast Guard Academy caught my interest. Then I reached out to them with basketball and their coach contacted me. I am looking forward towards service in the Coast Guard after I graduate from the academy.

Reflecting on your time with the Patriot Basketball team, what are some the highlights?
I think one of the best memories is being able to play with my brother (Matthew) one last time before I graduate. This past year has been a fun season, spending so much time with these guys. I played with them all through middle school.
How do you plan to contribute to the U.S. Coast Guard basketball team?
Obviously, I am always looking to get better, continue to practice on my skills. Especially during the offseason, I have been working on basketball.
Which other school activities and clubs are you involved with at PHS?
I was part of the (National Honor Society) and Beta Club, taking (advanced placement) courses and honor courses all throughout high school.
What lessons have you learned while playing PHS basketball?
One of the biggest things is just leadership; I think that was a big help for me. Being on a basketball team and being a team captain has definitely helped me out for the future.
