PENSACOLA — Sacred Heart Health System hosted a groundbreaking Tuesday for its new four-story Studer Family Children’s Hospital.
The new building will include:
●Pediatric Emergency Department and Trauma Center
●Six children’s operating rooms
●Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
●Pediatric Intensive Care
●Pediatric Oncology Unit
●Pediatric satellite pharmacy
●Pediatric inpatient rehabilitation gym
●Child life playrooms
Sacred Heart Health System and Ascension have committed $55 million, and Sacred Heart will raise the remaining funds from community supporters to complete all phases of the expansion.
In addition to the new children’s hospital, Phase 1 will include an expansion to Sacred Heart’s Regional Perinatal Center, an inpatient unit for expectant mothers with a high-risk pregnancy. This expansion will be built off of the current perinatal wing and will allow space for more expectant mothers, many of whom stay in the unit for weeks or even months until their babies arrive.
Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in 2018. Phase 2 will feature a complete renovation and expansion of Sacred Heart’s Maternity and Women’s Center.
Quint Studer is a consultant who has worked with 900 hospitals over his 29-year career. Quint and his wife, Rishy, have been strong proponents for Pensacola’s development. The new hospital’s name honors the Studers’ efforts to improve health care across the country and for Pensacola area children.
The opening of the new hospital is expected to add 100 Sacred Heart jobs for the local community. This growth of healthcare services will also enable recruitment of new pediatric specialists.
