These Santa Rosa students were big winners in 4-H's public speaking contest

Ryan Welch, a fourth-grader at Chumuckla Elementary School, won first place in his division during the 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking County contest May 11 in Milton.

MILTON — The 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking County contest was held May 11 in Milton. 

Santa Rosa County school winners representing fourth, fifth and sixth grade participated.

Here are the winners: 

Sixth grade

1st Place: Grace Mims, Gulf Breeze Middle

2nd Place: Maesey Rowell, Hobbs Middle

3rd Place: Aaron Dossett, Woodlawn Beach Middle

Honorable Mention: Ethan Jarskey, Holley Navarre Middle

 

5th grade

1st Place: Emerson Walters, Jay Elementary

2nd Place: Faith Scott, Rhodes Elementary

3rd Place: Sarah Marlow, West Navarre Intermediate

Honorable Mention: Jeslyn Salort, Holley Navarre Intermediate

 

4th grade

1st Place: Ryan Welch, Chumuckla Elementary

2nd Place: Parker Price, Bagdad Elementary

●More than 4,000 students from 13 schools participated in the 2014 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking contest this year, according to Prudence Caskey, Santa Rosa County 4-H Agent

●The 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking program is made available each year for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade teachers to implant as a 4-H School Enrichment program

●Teachers who choose to participate in the program use the curriculum materials provided and conduct classroom contests to determine classroom winners who advance to a school competition

●Participating schools conduct a contest to determine school winners who are awarded first-, second- and third-place medals

●The first-place school winner advances to the County Contest, which is coordinated by the Santa Rosa County Extension 4-H Office
