Crews fill Navarre Beach restoration project’s fourth, final segment

NAVARRE — Beach restoration crews are filling the fourth and final segment of the Navarre Beach renourishment project.

More than 900,000 cubic yards of sand have been placed on Navarre Beach since April 29. Turtle trawlers have safely relocated 161 turtles to a location outside the project area. The initiative is moving according to schedule and the active work zone has now transitioned to just east of Beach Access 11, according to county officials.

Over the next week, the contractor will continue filling segment four and, at the current pace, will reach the western end of the project within two-and-a-half weeks.

Dune planting is scheduled to begin at the project’s eastern end. Beach access 12 will remain closed for use as a staging area.

Monitoring for sea turtles and shorebird/seabird nesting and breeding will continue throughout the renourishment process.
