SPEAK OUT: clarifying the sales tax, don't allow Sunday liquor sales

MILTON — Here are the latest calls we received on Santa Rosa County and Milton area issues.

CLARIFYING THE SALES TAX

In the June 4-7, 2016 issue of the Press Gazette, Mrs. Jayne Bell, in reference to the half-cent sales tax with the courthouse, makes two remarks I would like to see clarified.

Number one, she states that the half-cent sales tax would cost Santa Rosa County families $65 a year … She should have said it will cost Santa Rosa County families $65 a year over what they currently pay for sales tax. But my main concern is, how did she come up with that number?

Number two, she also states that she hopes the sales tax will be a success because it will help with the quality of life. Exactly whose quality of life is she referring to with that sentence?

CLOSE ALL LIQUOR STORES

They should close all these (liquor) stores, and they can go (buy drinks) in the bars. And if they’re not old enough, they can go home and have a cup of tea or Coke, orange juice.

You know, so many problems, so much money wasted on wine. Look at Highway 90, how many wine stores there are. I’d close all of them. I’m glad Milton is still dry on Sunday.

Thank you, Speak Out. This is Maria.
