Men can find help at the Pregnancy Resource Center, too

While the Pregnancy Resource Center of Milton primarily sees female clients, the PRC welcomes men and has educational material and movies geared toward fatherhood.

MILTON — Fathers and fathers-to-be can learn parenting skills and receive other education at the Pregnancy Resource Center of Milton, according to PRC Director Cindy Roberts.

Since many fathers work, Roberts said they come to the PRC, located at  5736 Stewart St., Thursday evenings to learn nutrition, budgeting, and take part in Bible studies.

“We love seeing the dads come,” Roberts said, “and they seem to enjoy themselves.”

Patsy Catone, client services director, said expecting fathers should go through all the same things women do, but noted there are lessons and material geared specifically toward the men on safe sleeping, postpartum depression, and preventing child molestation.

Pastors are available for counseling men, Roberts said, and the PRC is open to other male volunteers.

Next year, the PRC will be able to offer free ultrasounds, Roberts said, which will also help fathers to better understand pregnancy, she said.

Father’s Day marks the end of Baby Bottle Boomerang, a PRC fundraiser. Those who take a baby bottle on Mother’s Day fill it up with loose change or other money, and return it on Father’s Day.

They accept late bottles, and Roberts said donations are always welcome.

Cindy Roberts is the newly installed executive director of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Milton. Keep up with her PRC blog posts at http://www.prcofmilton.org/directors-blog.
