PACE — “The Importance of Being Earnest” is the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies — and it’s the Panhandle Community Theatre’s next production.
Two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives.
In addition, they attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Ernest.
The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become entangled in a tale of deception, disguise and misadventure.
The plot ridicules Victorian sensibilities with some of the best loved, bizarre characters to be found on the modern stage.
The show is set for 7:30 p.m. July 28-30 and Aug. 4-6 at the theater, which is located at 4646 Woodbine Road, Pace, 1 mile north of Highway 90 in the Storage Masters Complex. Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. on July 31 and Aug. 7.
General admission costs $15 per person, or $12 on Thursdays.
