JAY — Jay Mayor Shon Owens at 6 p.m. June 19 will rename the Jay Community Center in a ceremony at the Jay Community Center on Booker Avenue in Jay. The Community Center will be named the Linda Carden Community Center in honor of the former town clerk’s 40 years of service to the community.

Commissioner Don Salter will be the guest speaker and a small reception will follow the event.

Carden started working for Jay in 1976 as the assistant to the town clerk, Theda Bray. She worked for three mayors: J.D. Bray, Jackie Ard and Kurvin Qualls.

While assigned as the Town Clerk, she earned the designation as a Master Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Master Municipal Clerk Academy Program.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that Kurvin Qualls is still the mayor of Jay.
