S.S. Dixon Primary sets clothing drive for families in need

S.S. Dixon Primary School in Pace will help families in need with an upcoming clothing drive.

PACE —  S.S. Dixon Primary School wants its families and children to have clothing necessary to start the new school year.

The school’s cafeteria on July 28 will open to families with children enrolled at S.S. Dixon Primary. During the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. clothing giveaway, attendees can select new to lightly used shoes and clothes for boys and girls of all ages. Adult items also will be available.

On the following day during the same hours, the school cafeteria will open to families throughout Santa Rosa County, according to organizer Shelley Hamilton.

“We got so much good feedback,” she said. “A lot of families were thankful, saying this was going to help them out.”

Hamilton said last year’s clothing drive helped at least 100 families.

Aiding the effort are parents with the school’s parent teacher organization and students from Pace High School’s JROTC program.

Donations were collected at the school several months before summer vacation, according to Hamilton.

She said the school’s families continue to show their support through donations.

“Last year, we filled six lunch tables with clothes,” Hamilton said. “They just continue to give, give, give.”
