MILTON — A prescribed burn is taking place east of the Moors, according to Santa Rosa County Public Information Officer Brandi Whitehurst.
Westervelt Ecological Services is handling the burn, which is located just north of the 23 mile marker, or 1 ½ miles east of the Avalon exit. It covers between 150 to 300 acres, and Whitehurst said it is currently under control.
As of 4:30 p.m., there was no estimated time of when the burn will end.
Prescribed burns promote healthy forests and reduce wildfire risk, according to Joe Zwierzchowski, the Wildfire Mitigation Specialist for the Florida Forest Service.
