MILTON — The highly addictive and popular “Pokemon Go” app has created difficulties for Naval Air Station Whiting Field as users attempt to play the game on the installation.
Taking photographs on the military base without proper authorization — the app has a camera function — is a concern. So is entering the base illegally, or stopping a vehicle in the roadway to use the application.
These actions interfere with standard base operations and could be met with disciplinary action. Therefore, using the Pokemon Go application on NAS Whiting Field or its outlying areas is not permitted.
“We understand the fun of the game,” NAS Whiting Field Public Affairs Officer Jay Cope stated. “However, the integrity of the base and the safety of its personnel are our top priorities.”
The Pokemon Go application is prohibited on base due to the camera function, which is not allowed without proper authorization. Furthermore, anyone without proper base access will be turned away. This includes the installation’s Whiting Park area on the Blackwater River.
“If you choose to play Pokemon Go, please stay aware of your surroundings and enjoy the game with multiple players, but don’t play it while on board NAS Whiting Field,” Cope said.
