Star Trek club sets homeless shelter benefit

Residents will once again have the opportunity to vote for their favorite science fiction franchise either “Star Trek” or Star Wars” this weekend at the Ridge Cinema 8 in Pace. All proceeds will benefit the 'For the Children' homeless children shelter.

PACE — This weekend, to celebrate “Star Trek Beyond,” fans of the TV and movie franchise will raise funds for a homeless children’s shelter.

Attendees seeing a movie at Ridge Cinema 8 in Pace can participate in the “Star Wars” vs. “Star Trek” contest and donate toward their favorite science fiction franchise.

Members of the Milton-based U.S.S. Harry Mudd — named after a “Star Trek” character — will collect donations throughout the weekend at the theater. Donations for each option will be counted on Sunday. The same day, members will announce which fan-favorite franchise received the most donations.

All proceeds will benefit For the Children of Milton, a nonprofit organization renovating a 7,000-square-foot house for a homeless shelter.

Fans also can be photographed, at no charge, sitting in a replica “Star Trek” captain’s chair.
