Pensacola man sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted murder

On June 18, 2015, Carl Dewayne Scott repeatedly rammed his vehicle into his girlfriend’s SUV, forcing her off Creighton Road, according to the state attorney's office.

Witnesses told police that Scott busted out the victim’s window using a hatchet, hit her with it and then stabbed her with "an ice pick-like object."

A bystander stopped to assist and, when he saw what Scott was doing to the victim, he tried to pull Scott away. Scott stabbed the bystander in the hand, the state attorney's office said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for her injuries and survived.

State Attorney Bill Eddins announced that Carl Dewayne Scott was sentenced by Circuit Judge Jennie Kinsey to 30 years in state prison.

Judge Kinsey sentenced Carl Dewayne Scott as a Prison Releasee Reoffender which means he will be required to serve the 30 years day for day in state prison.

Scott pled no contest to the charges of two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon on March 17, 2016.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.  Assistant State Attorney Cassandra Andres prosecuted the case.
