LETTER: Imagine yourself at the 29th Riverwalk Arts Festival

Dear editor,

I can see it now . . . You dressed in a Southern staple, a picture hat and those pearls you got for your 16th birthday, as you stroll along with your companion, making sure not to miss a single painting or piece of pottery — you want to see it all.

The Santa Rosa Art and Culture Foundation presents its 29th annual Riverwalk Arts Festival and, as always, it’s beautiful. The festival is cram-packed with art and music, cultural performers and food. The Blackwater River is the backdrop for this aptly named festival and the Riverwalk is so inviting, you must take the time to saunter along the water and enjoy Milton’s waterfront attraction.

Pace yourself . . . this is going to take some time and you’re going to want to stay a while, so keep that clutch purse handy; you are sure to find something to take home with you. Ooooh, you whisper to your companion as you are dazzled by an outstanding handcrafted piece of jewelry, being sure to note that it’s not a hint to buy it for you — try it on anyway . . . well maybe it is a hint after all.

There is just so much to see and hear. The music is so appropriate and you feel y’all just have to stay longer to see the cultural performers; they have always been so wonderful that you have left the Riverwalk Arts Festival with a feeling of joy and elation . . . Sigh, why can’t we do this EVERY weekend?

Don’t you just love “festival food?” This festival always has the very best, and even if you choose to sit in the calming breeze, wafting up from the river, you enjoy it while listening to the music from the South Gazebo — don’t you just LOVE the South.

You do know, you can munch on some tidbit as you continue your stroll through the Heritage Arts. Yes, it’s okay to be amazed at what an artist can do with simple things — simple things that become art and utilitarian, too.

The Santa Rosa Arts and Culture Foundation proves once again that it truly lives its mission of vitalizing, enriching and promoting arts and culture in Santa Rosa County — and, in doing so, don’t you feel enriched today for having been an integral part of this wonderful festival, celebrating creativity in all its facets?

Shall we congratulate the festival planners already? Oh, yes — wonderful job — please do this again EVERY year!
