LETTER: Revise Riverwalk plan to include bathrooms

Dear editor,

I just moved to Milton. The article on the front page about more funding for the $8.4M Riverwalk was interesting. I quickly read it, looking to see if a bathroom was going to be built.

Out of all that money, nothing was said about building a bathroom.

I have gone to the last two Bands on the Blackwater events and had to use the port-a-potty. No one has complained? Has the mayor used them? Mothers and fathers bring their kids in and no one has said anything?

It's been dark, and no lights, and no one seems to be bothered? Has the Press Gazette looked into this?

They talk about more boat docks. So when the people dock their boat, they go straight to the port-a-potty? Just shocked!

Editor’s Note: Milton officials are considering ways to fill the need for facilities within event areas, according to the city’s public information officer.

Once the city has a greater understanding of what downtown will look like in the near future, it will be easier to decide where permanent facilities will be located, City Manager Brian Watkins said.

“Once we know where the courthouse will be located, we can make a decision where to place permanent facilities,” he said. “The decision concerning the courthouse is a major factor in how we may go forward with public restrooms.

"This is a continuing discussion with the council. It’s basically balancing the need to dollars. Do we want to make an investment before we have an answer about the courthouse?

"We have to have a firm decision before we make that commitment,” he said, adding the city is considering temporary facilities.
