LETTER: How is Greyhound racing mandated?

Dear editor,

This is in reply to the Aug. 17 letter, “Republicans — vote with your conscience.”

In her fourth paragraph (the author) asserts that greyhound racing is a “government-mandated pastime.”

Huh? Government? What government? Federal, state or local? Mandated? Since when?

Greyhound racing is “permitted” via state and local law — but not “mandated.” I could be wrong, but I do not believe the federal government has anything to do with greyhound racing; it is solely a state and local issue.

Now, we are brought to her last paragraph where she asserts that “it’s time to restore common sense to Washington.”

Huh? “Restore common sense to Washington”? By whom? …

Anybody that thinks that greyhound racing is “government-mandated” is woefully uninformed and; therefore, unqualified to “restore common sense” to anything — especially the federal government.
