MILTON — Kevin Davis, of Milton, driving a semi hauling approximately 8,100 gallons of methanol fell asleep on I-10 headed east, approaching the Avalon Blvd. exit, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Davis fell asleep as he entered the right curve of the road. Davis' semi left the roadway onto the paved median and the left front struck a crash attenuator and then the concrete barrier wall. His truck continued
east striking approximately 550' of concrete barrier wall before coming to final rest. His diesel tanks ruptured and ignited causing burn damage to the truck, trailer, and roadway.
The front right of Lauren Burnsed's 2010 Toyota Corolla struck a wheel that had been knocked off Davis' semi.
The semi came to final rest facing east in the inside eastbound inside lane of I 10 west of SR 281. The Corolla came to final rest on the south shoulder of I 10 west of SR 281.
FHP charged Davis with careless driving. Davis received minor injuries while Burnsed reportedly received none.
