MILTON — Gulf Islands National Seashores Superintendent Dan Brown received the Milton Pride tag holder from Sunrise Kiwanis President-elect Bonnie Holt.
Ferries and trolleys are in Fort Pickens and area beaches’ future, Brown said. Two ferries to transport visitors to Fort Pickens; docks installed to accommodate the ferries; and solar-powered trolleys to transport visitors are in the plans, he told Kiwanis members.
With $2.8 million in grants and $5.2 million from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill recovery, these long-held hopes are becoming a reality.
Brown also spoke about the trouble with waves washing out the road when there is a storm in the Gulf. Anything over 8 feet in wave height or 2 inches in rain causes a road washout, he said.
