MILTON — Recently arrived Milton woman Mary Clancy Lacoy is a nature lover and mother of two. This July she turned 95.
Lacoy was raised in Concord, NH. She worked for the state of New Hampshire for 24 years.
She married the love of her life, Joe Lacoy, a Marine, in 1945. They were together 72 years before he passed at age 95 in 2016. She had two children, Lane and Leslie. After their retirement Mary and Joe moved to Lillian, Ala. where they resided for 28 years. Last November Mary moved with her two cats to Milton to live with her daughter.
Years ago, Lacoy studied karate and earned several belts. She snow and cross country skied while in NH. Both Lacoy and her husband carved small birds for several years giving many of them away to family and friends. They loved to sail on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH and had several sail boats over the years.
Lacoy enjoys making cards, is an avid reader — reading several books a week, and is in the process of painting and decorating miniature bird houses that will stand on thin dowels. She loves to garden, spoil her cats and watch the wildlife coming into the yard: a raccoon mom and her babies, a doe and her fawns, possums, squirrels and lots of cardinals and hummingbirds.
Lacoy's favorite football teams are Auburn, Alabama, the Saints and Patriots. She also enjoys watching golf on TV.
A Santa Rosa Art Association member since 2017, Lacoy loves watching a variety of artist demonstations as well as participating in the teaching lectures. In August, the Art Association had a challenge to members to decorate composition books to be given to Dr. Karen Barber for distribution to homeless students in the county. While most members decorated three or four composition books, Mary brought 25 she had decorated.
