MILTON — Two people received minor injuries in a Wednesday afternoon traffic accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Michael Joe Barnes, 60, was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram northbound in the outside lane of U.S. Highway 29 approaching Carolina Drive.

Paula Elaine Butler, 39, of Molino, was stopped in a 2012 Chevy Malibu directly behind Richard Shadolph Mixon, 52, of Pensacola, who drove a 1997 Ford F-150.

Mixon was stopped behind other unknown traffic facing north in the outside lane of U.S. 29 at the intersection of Carolina Drive.

Barnes reportedly suddenly accelerated. The front right of the Ram struck the left rear of the Malibu, according to FHP; Butler then left the roadway, traveled northeast through the ditch on the east shoulder of U.S. 29, and into the parking lot of 8124 U.S. 29. The Ram rotated clockwise and overturned, reportedly causing the hood and windshield to strike the F-150’s rear.

The Ram’s final rest was facing east in the outside lane of U.S. 29 at the intersection of Carolina Drive. The Malibu’s final rest was facing south in the parking lot of 8124 U.S. 29 north of Carolina Drive. The F-150’s final rest was facing northeast on the east shoulder of U.S. 29 north of Carolina Drive.

Barnes and Mixon received minor injuries; all drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor, according to FHP, which stated the Ram received $25,000 in damage, the Malibu, $5,000, and the F-150 $2,000.
