PACE — Jake Nemith, of Pace High School, has signed a baseball scholarship with Pensacola State College.

Here, the 18-year-old catcher and first baseman — who is approaching his final season with the Patriots — answers some questions about his decision.

Why did you sign with PSC?

I just want to stay close to home the first year or two. Going off was a little out of my range. At Pensacola, I did a workout with them. I really like the coaches. We fit well together. It just seems like the right place for me.

What will you remember most about your time with the Patriots?

It’s a different program. They are very disciplined. They do a lot of hitting, a lot of defense. It’s just a very well run program. We work out every day and we are always doing something. There’s never an off day, which is what I like about it. Another thing is with the teammates; it’s always like a family with brothers. There is no split. The locker room is all together.

What will you bring to PSC’s baseball program?

I am looking to bring some leadership and all of the knowledge that I have learned here and help them as much as I can.

Have you decided what type of degree you will pursue?

I like nursing, but my mother and grandfather have just looked up cyber security. They just came out with it at PSC and I think that is what I am going to do.

What do you expect from your final season with the Patriots?

I think we are going to be very solid this year. We got some talent and we got some young arms, so hopefully we can get it going.
