The answer

Escambia County is using the Quintette Boat Ramp as a staging area for a Florida Department of Transportation-mandated project to repair and protect some of the bridge pilings from scour, erosion of material from the pilings’ base, according to Steven Furman, Santa Rosa County Public Works Director. The project includes placing 5,000 tons of rock around the affected pilings.

Escambia County has written permission from the Northwest Florida Water Management District to use the boat ramp area. The permit requires the contractor to build a temporary loading area for the transfer of the rock to barges in the river.   

The overall project time is subject to weather and river conditions, but it is expected to be complete in the next six to eight weeks.

What this means for you

The existing boat ramp will remain available for public use. The parking area will be partially blocked off for the contractor’s use, but a parking area for other users will be available.
