Santa Rosa residents achieve dean’s, president’s lists
MILTON — These Santa Rosa County residents have earned academic honors:
Kathryn English, of Milton: Harding University dean's list. Students on the Searcy, Arkansas Christian college dean’s list achieved a 3.65 or higher grade point average.
Amanda Church and Benjamin Naselius, of Navarre: dean’s and president’s lists, respectively, at Jacksonville State University. Students on the dean’s list achieved a 3.55-3.99 or higher grade point average. President’s list honorees earned a 4.0 grade point average or all A’s.
Katharine Mahaffey, of Pace: Baylor University’s dean’s list. Baylor undergraduate students on this list earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.
Jay’s Destiny Herring signs with Mississippi Gulf Coast College
JAY — Jay High School student Destiny Herring has signed a full scholarship with Mississippi Gulf Coast College in Perkinston, Miss.
Herring has been a member of the JHS Varsity Softball Team for six years.
King Middle’s A.J. Huling named All-State Musician
MILTON — King Middle School student AJ Huling was selected as the school’s All-State Musician for the Florida Music Educator’s Association Middle School Honors Band.
AJ traveled to Tampa with band director Gayla Dodd; there, AJ performed in the tuba section.
Linda Mann conducted the concert on Jan. 15 during the annual FMEA convention.
Gulf Breeze High’s Jonny Gibson name first flutist
Jonny Gibson of Gulf Breeze High School placed first on flute during a statewide band competition.
High school students from throughout Florida auditioned, and the Florida Bandmasters Association chose 12 flutists to participate.
Judges chose Jonny as the first chair and principal flute. All the chosen band students attended the event in Tampa. They went through two days of rehearsal leading up to the concert.
Dr. William K. Wakefield, of the University of Oklahoma School of Music, conducted the State Symphonic Band, and performed “Wine Dark Sea” by John Mackey.
