Navy sailors, flight instructors of the year honored

MILTON — The Navy League Santa Rosa County Council held its Naval Air Station Whiting Field Training Air Wing Five Sailor of the Year and Flight Instructor of the Year Awards Banquet Friday night at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium.

Award winners announced during the banquet, which featured food by Nouveau Pastries and Catering, follow.

Sailors of the Year:

• HN Leeza Locklear, Blue Jacket of the Year, Naval Branch Health Clinic, NAS Whiting Field
• HM2 Jason Lovin, Junior Sailor of the Year, Naval Branch Health Clinic, NAS Whiting Field
• HM1 (FMF) Marc Perkins, Senior Sailor of the Year, Naval Branch Health Clinic, NAS Whiting Field
• AWS1 Christopher Anderson, CNATRA Sea and Shore Sailor of the Year, HT-18 TAW5
• AWS2 (NAC/AW) Jacob Aldach, Aircrew Sailor of the Year, HT-8 TAW5
• AWS1 Brent Blackwell, Aircrew Sailor of the Year, HT-28 TAW5
• AC2 Tinea Lewis, Blue Jacket of the Year, NAS Whiting Field
• ABH2 Kyle Wyrock, Junior Sailor of the Year, NAS Whiting Field
• ABH1 Jeffrey Garcia, Senior Sailor of the Year, NAS Whiting Field

Flight Instructors of the Year:

• Lt. Nicholas Peranteau, United States Navy, VT-2
• Capt. Brent Schiffer, United States Marine Corps, VT-3
• Lt. Colin Johnson-Giammalvo, United States Navy, VT-6
• Lt. Ryan Miller, HT-8
• Lt. Mark Boniface, HT-18
• Lt. Otis Dunlap, HT-28
• LCDR Christopher Toms, TAW-5 Reserve Component

In addition, Past President JoAnn Sisson gave the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office a community award for the department’s support of the Navy League; the SRSO last year donated $1,500.

She also announced that Santa Rosa County Navy League Charity Golf Tournament organizers have named the annual event after the Navy League national director, U.S. Navy Capt. Walter Reese (Ret.)
