MILTON — This Sunday, the Tin Cow in Pace will hold “Prohibition is Over in Pace and Milton,” an event that owner Joe Abston said he would host if the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners legalized Sunday alcohol sales.

Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the measure. No one spoke against the ordinance during Thursday’s meeting.

The Tin Cow in Pace will offer patrons their first beer at no charge, on the first Sunday that alcohol sales become officially legal, Abston said. The business’ Facebook page indicates that is this Sunday.

Business owners who supported legalizing Sunday alcohol sales included, among others, Tin Cow owner Joe Abston, Grover T’s owner Mike Thomas and South Market owner Holly Hays.

“Look at this as an economic issue, not a social issue. We’ll always face social issues. Every one of us feels strongly about people being treated fairly,” Hays said.
