Flora-Bama will present a half-marathon or 5K run/walk to aid surviving families of Special Operations forces from all branches who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The event is Saturday, March 25 directly on the beach behind the Flora-Bama. Starting time is 7:30 a.m. for the half-marathon and 9 a.m. for 5k run/walk, with an awards ceremony and after-race party in the tent area. There will be plenty of food, drinks and live entertainment provided by Big Muddy, Jezebel’s Chill’n, & Jay Hawkins Trio.
Entry fees are $65 for the half-marathon and $25 for the 5k run/walk up to March 23. Race registration fees will increase $10 after March 23.
Trophies will be awarded three-deep in all age groups for the run, walk and half-marathon. Special awards will be given to overall female and male. All half-marathon participants will also receive a completion medal.
Registration forms are available in the Flora-Bama Gift Shop, florabama.com and active.com.
“To raise as much money as possible for Special Operations Warrior Foundation, we have added a virtual runner option on active.com,” a media release states. “This will allow people who cannot physically be at the race, an option to still sign up; and 100 percent of the registration fees will go to the foundation.”
All virtual runners will receive a virtual completion certificate and a souvenir race shirt by mail.
The half-marathon (13.1-mile) run, along with shorter 5K (3.1-mile) run/walk on the white sands of Perdido Key and Orange Beach, is the project of Flora-Bama partner and General Manager, Cameron Price, to honor his fallen comrades at arms.
Price is both a West Point graduate and former Army Ranger. The event is dedicated to his fellow graduates and the special operations personnel from all services who lost their lives or were grievously wounded in the line of duty.
Special Operations Warrior Foundation ensures financial aid and counseling to families of these fallen heroes along with full scholarship grants to their children.
