MILTON — The Milton Rotary Club’s latest guest speaker was Mike Goehring, a retired Secret Service agent.
“We were presented some great facts about the Secret Service, as far as when and why they were formed, purpose and when the group was officially signed into law,” a Rotary spokesperson said. “Mr. Goehring was in the Secret Service over 20 years and said that one in 250 applicants are accepted into the Secret Service.”
The Secret Service was established in 1865 for fighting counterfeit currency; members did not start to protect the president until 1901 after President McKinley was fatally shot.
