City of Milton to raise sexual assault awareness

MILTON — The city’s Caroline Street fountain will turn teal at 4 p.m. March 31 to observe Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Representatives from Lakeview Center, Favor House and Santa Rosa Kids House will speak during the observance, which will include a proclamation.

Milton Mayor Wesley Meiss; Capt. Todd Bahlau, commanding officer at Naval Air Station Whiting Field; Santa Rosa Sheriff Bob Johnson; and Milton Police Chief Tony Tindell will attend.

Attendees should arrive no earlier than 3:45 p.m., according to a city of Milton media release.

“Sexual assault awareness is important to everyone in our community,” Tindell said. “According to statistics, 4,730 arrests were made for forcible sex offenses in Florida in 2015.  One is too many.”
