NAVARRE — The Navarre Garden Club's recent horticulture program did not disappoint. Held monthly at the Navarre Visitor Center and open to the public at no charge, these informative programs have covered topics such as the hibiscus, composting, and climbing vines. A make-and-take feature has been very popular too.
The December presenter was Dana Wilson, whose topic was "Christmas Favorites: Grow and Regrow: We love to see the bright flowers at Christmas. What happens to them afterwards?"
Dana answered this question with various suggestions and tips for several seasonal plants such as the poinsettia, Christmas cactus, and amaryllis, and she brought printed handouts as well as beautiful specimens as examples. The hands-on activity involved potting a Paperwhite bulb, and learning about its care.
The January horticulture program will be presented by Janet Hays, an Okaloosa County Master Gardener. The topic will be "Plants That Provide Color in the Shade," and it will be held 1 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Navarre Visitor Center, 8543 Navarre Parkway, Navarre.
The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. For more information, call Ginger at 396-5494.
