MILTON — Main Street Milton has voted unanimously to elect Donny West, a 20-year-old resident of the community, to become the newest member of the organization's Board of the Directors.
MSM Board President Cassandra Sharp it would be nice to see younger people join the board and get involved in the program. She also said having younger people get involved would allow individuals who had been involved with the program for several years the ability to step away from the board and give the younger generations a chance to lead it.
"(Donny) has been very supportive of the program," Sharp said.
West, whose family have been Milton residents for generations, said being asked to join the board was an "honor of a lifetime for him." He said as a person who is trying to build a business from the ground up he appreciates what the program offers the city and would like to be a part of it. He said he believes he can bring fresh ideas to the table to improve Main Street Milton.
"(Milton) is where I'd like to stay for the rest of my life," West said. "We are all here for our love of Milton. For the first time in my life, after a long period of stagnation, I am seeing Milton move forward. I consider that, in large part, due to this organization."
West will begin his new role on the MSM board this month. He will serve for a three-year term and will fill one of four vacant seats on the board.
