MILTON — It was standing room only as Milton High School auditorium was packed full on May 23 for the graduation of the 2019 class of Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Adult High School.
These students decided to continue working on their high school educations despite not being able to earn their diploma during the traditional four-year high school program. Larry Heringer, principal of the school, said there are many reasons why students deviate from the norm. Students may lose interest in school, have family issues that need attention, homelessness, poverty, and many other reasons, said Heringer.
Other than going to an adult high school, these students seem to have the same dreams and aspirations as any other graduate. Some will stay where they are and continue working, others plan to further their education, many have young families they have already started that need their attentions and others see it as a new beginning and are not ready to make their decisions yet.
"This is why we have these schools," Heringer said.
Heringer said the mission of the school was to prepare students for success by providing a superior, relevant education. He added the vision of the school is that students will be productive, successful contributors to society.
