MILTON — Get ready, kids, to cheer for the city you love. Milton's Community Center has begun registration for its annual cheerleading season for children ages 5-14.
Registration for the cheerleading camp is $95, according to the community center Recreation Activities Coordinator Robert Arnold.
Arnold said new students wishing to join need to be registered by May 5. He said fittings for uniforms will be held on May 30 and if children do not have a uniform they will not be allowed to cheer.
"It's great, all girls really enjoy it," Arnold said. "Usually we have around 100 cheerleaders."
Arnold said the students will be instructed by Milton High School cheerleaders, who will teach them cheers special to MHS as well as generic ones.
"Cheerleaders from the past come back and help," he said. "Some of the cheerleaders in Milton High School were in our cheer program. It's like a feeder program."
On the last day of the program parents will be invited to come watch the children perform all the cheers they have learned.
"It's no pressure on the girls," he said. "It's a fun thing. The coaches make it really enjoyable."
Currently, the program still needs two coaches, Arnold said, to completely fill staffing needs. He said he needs someone to coach ages five and six and someone to coach ages nine and ten. Anyone interested can contact him at rarnold@miltonfl.org.
