Tobacco cessation classes
MILTON — Quitting tobacco isn’t easy. Finding help should be. Tobacco Free Florida offers free tools and services to help you get started.
For those 18 years old, if medically appropriate, the Florida Department of Health offers free nicotine replacement patches, lozenges and gum.
The department also offers free community, worksite and clinic groups.
Classes will be available through 2019 on site at the department’s Santa Rosa County location, 5527 Stewart St. in Milton. Quit Smoking Now takes place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Tools To Quit takes place 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

Florida Friendly Landscaping Principles Class
MILTON — It's possible to have a great lawn using Florida-friendly methods. Learn about the right timing and methods for fertilizing and weed control, proper irrigation, and other practices for your lawn from Mary Salinas, residential horticulture agent in the UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension Office. This free class will be offered on two different days in both ends of the county; no pre-registration is required:
Milton: Classes will be held every second Friday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. beginning Jan. 11. Located at the Santa Rosa County Extension Office at 6263 Dogwood Drive.
Gulf Breeze: Classes will be held every third Friday from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. beginning Jan. 18. Located at the Gulf Breeze Library at 1060 Shoreline Drive.

Tobacco-Free Santa Rosa Coalition
MILTON — The Tobacco-Free Santa Rosa Coalition will meet at 4 p.m. Jan. 17 in the main conference room of the Florida Department of Health Milton location, 5527 Stewart Street (in the back of the building). Topics will include a Students Working Against Tobacco update, Smoke-free Multiunit Housing, Worksite Wellness and community events.
ReptiDay: Navarre Conference Center hosts reptile show
NAVARRE — Jan. 19 is ReptiDay, the one-day version of the events presented by Repticon at the Navarre Conference Center, 8700 Navarre Parkway. The event offers guests the opportunity to learn about animals not normally seen in local pet stores. Breeder-vendors are always willing to teach; and, throughout the event, there will be seminars on animal-related topics by experts in the field of herpetology. Guests can also shop for a new family pet among the hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, spiders, and small exotic animals.
The doors open to the general public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, closing at 5 p.m. At the door, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and children under 5 are admitted free. VIP early-entry tickets may be purchased from our website at http://repticon.com/florida/reptiday-pensacola/.
Capstone Pet Place grand opening
MILTON — From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 is the grand opening of Capstone Pet Place and pet adoption event with local animal shelters like the Humane Society at 5326 Stewart St in Milton.
Customers can expect ot see special discounts on products, enter to win a contest for a custom-made granite pet food bowl, giveaways for samples of exclusive, all-natural grain-free Grandma Mae’s pet food and more. The first 50 customers will receive a special gift. Attendees can take a picture with Capstone Pet Place’s mascot Cappy the beagle.
Capstone Pet Place is owned by a local nonprofit funded by Impact 100. The store employs individuals with special needs so they can gain real-life work experience.

World Religion Day
MILTON — The Baha'i's of Santa Rosa County invite people of all faiths to join them in a clebration of World Religion Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at the hom eof Robert and Daffraneeze Riley, 5517 Delona Road, Milton.
World Religion Day began in 1950 initiated by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of the United States in Wilmette, Ill. It is observed on teh third Sunday of January by Baha'is, and increasingly by people around the glove to foster understanding and communication among followers of all religions.
The purpose is to call attention to the harmony of spiritual principles and the oneness of the world's religions. As stated in Baha'i scripture, "Religion should be the cause of love an dagreement, a bond to unify all mankind, for it is a message of peace and goodwill to man from God … Religion is the greatest of all means for the establishment of order in the world and for the peaceful contentment of all that dwell therein."

AARP Smart Driver Course at SRMC
MILTON — AARP will conduct Smart Driver Classes Jan. 21 and Feb. 18. Each class will be held in the Locklin Building at Santa Rosa Medical Center, 6002 Berryhill Road, in Milton. The 6-hour Smart Driver course is designed for seniors (over 50), but is open to all drivers. Course completion may help lower participants’ insurance costs. Decontaminate Navarre program
NAVARRE — The third workshop in a five-part series of environmental workshops for Navarre Garden Club’s "Decontaminate Navarre" program takes place at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Navarre Visitor Center at Highway 98.
