A family affair

MILTON — If you turn North on Stewart Street from Highway 90 and go up past the Santa Rosa Kid's House on the right, you will find Golden’s Soul Food. The stationary food truck that offers authentic soul food, cooked following Santa Rosa residents Rosa and Gray Golden's family recipes.

"Our family is from the Georgia area and all cook real good Georgia/Florida soul food," Rosa Golden said.

Golden said the idea to open a food truck started as a conversation between family members.

"Everybody always liked the food at our gatherings," she said.

Those conversations have turned into a full time job. Golden, her son Jaelyn, and her mother Sarah Gooden staff the truck on a full time bases. Sometimes a sister will stop by to lend a hand. Golden's husband works at the truck on weekends when he features ribs and fish dinners.

The Golden's opened the food truck a week ago and business has been good according to Golden. She said the opening weekend drew about 100 people and their first weekday open had a crowd of about ten at opening. One patron, according to Golden, was commenting to her lunch partner how good her fried chicken was.

Golden's serves fried chicken, chicken with waffles and wings. They also have hamburgers, hotdogs, and the sides. There is a daily soul food special. One particular special available is roast beef with potatoes and carrots served over rice as the special. Golden's also serves sweet potato pie, pound cake and peach cobbler for dessert.

Golden's is open Thursday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 6 P.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
