MILTON — George Jordan is running for Milton City Council Ward III.

Jordan has been married to his wife Carol for 40 years. They have three daughters and seven grandchildren. Jordan said sharing the parks and downtown events with their grandchildren is one of their favorite pastimes.

“I feel we must preserve the best things we have built and accomplished,” Jordan said in an email.

If elected, Jordan said he has several goals. He said he wants to enhance revenue streams, make a new waste water treatment facility top priority, cut spending by seeking more efficient methods of city operation, and continue to improve parks and recreational facilities. He also plans to continue to supply the needs of fire fighters and police insuring the health and welfare of all citizens. Another of his goals is to make Milton’s government more transparent and accountable to its citizens.

Jordan said he is passionate about civic involvement.

“We need people, especially people younger than me, to be inspired to take time to learn about our city,” he said.

Jordan wants to increase council transparency. According to Jordan, a large group of citizens are being left out of the decision making process at council meetings. He said he is also concerned that after the agenda is approved items are brought up late at night, when motions are made and items passed at regular council meetings. This behavior excludes citizens who may have an interest in the item from participating, he said.

Jordan said he feels he is best qualified to be on the council because he can represent the citizens with honesty, ethics, accountability and transparency. Jordan also said he can add a unique view to the council because he and his wife have owned and operated several businesses profitably with no government assistance. Jordan said he will share his business skill set with Milton’s council and city staff.

“I have spent the time necessary going to council and board meetings to understand the operations of our city,” Jordan said. “A business background and knowledge of city operations provide me a vision that can help take Milton to a brighter future.”

Jordan said working domestically and abroad he has learned to listen to people and solve problems while maintaining profitability.

“Let’s be successful together,” Jordan said. “I ask for your vote.”
