BAGDAD — Bagdad Elementary School is doing their part to help local shelters. The school has partnered with the community project “Socktober” to gather items for the local shelters for the winter seasons.
According to the school, the goal is to collect 500 pairs of new socks and other toiletries including toothbrushes, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and soap by the end of the month.
The drive was started by the “Gloria Blue House” of BES.
Tiphanie Sapp, assistant principal of BES, said that the school is divided into four “houses:”
- Credo “Red House:” This house strives to be bold, brave, believers,
- Gloria “Blue House:” This house strives to be ambitious, authentic, aspiring
- Radium “Yellow House:” This house strives to be reflective, respectful, remarkable
- Bonitas “Green House:” This house strives to be kind, keen, knowledge
During special occasions these houses will meet and will have festivities. The houses are not by grade level which allows for older students to mentor the younger students in the houses.
Each house takes turns coming up with school wide and fundraisers and events according to Sapp.
