UPCOMING

STAR WARS READS DAY: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at all libraries, the force is strong at the Library where you can celebrate Star Wars Reads Day. While you are taking a break from school, enjoy the Star Wars themed displays and activities. “Solo: A Star Wars Movie” (rated PG-13) will be shown at 11 a.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library and at 2 p.m. at the Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace Libraries. Contact your local library for more details. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library groups.

RECURRING 

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME: Storytime programs are for preschool children ages 3-5 and include stories, finger plays and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime. However, they cannot accompany children into the programs. Programs start promptly at the assigned times. Latecomers are not admitted.

First timer? Visit the library to meet the storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore the children's area, and enjoy a tour of the library.

Storytime will be presented during the following times Sept. 17 through Dec. 7:

  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre and Milton Libraries
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze and Pace Libraries

TODDLER TIME: Toddler Time is a program for children ages 18 to 36 months who attend with a caregiver. One child and one adult register together for songs, stories, rhymes, and other fun activities. This 20-minute program lasts six weeks. 

Toddler Time requires registration and space is limited. It is not a drop-in program. Details are available at the participating libraries. Call the Youth Services Coordinator Angela Evans at 981-4066 for details.

Toddler Time will be presented during the following times Sept. 17 through Oct. 26:

  • 11 – 11:20 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton, Navarre, and Pace Libraries
  • 10 – 10:20 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze Library

REFRESHING READS BOOK CLUB: 3 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Jay library, enjoy an uplifting book club where one can talk about books in a spirit of fun and sharing. Refreshing Reads meets the first Tuesday of every month. See a staff person to sign up. This month, read your favorite book and be prepared to share with the group about it. This month's selection is “If I Run” by Terri Blackstock.

READING WITH SUMMIT: 4 p.m. Oct. 2 and 16 at the Milton Library, visit the library to read with Summit, the K-9 Literacy Dog! Space is limited. Registration is required. Speak with a staff member to sign up.

THE ILLUSTRIATES GRAPHIC NOVEL BOOK CLUB: 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Navarre Library, sixth through 12th graders can join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month's selection is “Poe: Stories and Poems,” a graphic novel adaptation by Gareth Hinds. Speak with a staff member to sign up.

BOOK CHAT: 4 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Pace Library, one of the next best things to reading a good book is chatting about it. Join the conversation on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. This month's selection is “A Death in Live Oak” by James Grippando. Registration is required.

READING WITH GABBY: 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at the Pace library, visit the library to read with Gabby the therapy dog! Space is limited; registration is required. Speak with a staff member to sign up.

FRIENDS OF THE NAVARRE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING: 10 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Navarre Library, 8484 James M. Harvell Road, Navarre.

THE INKLINGS: 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Milton Library, sixth through 10th graders are invited to share their ideas about the book of the month. This month’s selection is “York: The Shadow Cipher” by Laura Ruby. Speak with a staff member to register.

FRIENDS OF THE GULF BREEZE LIBRARY BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING: 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Gulf Breeze Library, 1060 Shoreline Drive. Details: www.facebook.com/friendsofgblibrary

CODING ROBOTICS FOR KIDS: 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Pace Library, children ages 6 – 11 can play with and learn basic coding ot make a robot move, spin and dance. Spice is limited. See a staff member to register.

ARTISTS AND AUTHORS: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12 and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at the Navarre Library, local authors and artisans will be staged throughout the library sharing their talents, signing books and discussing their works. Some of the participants will have items available for purchase.

PAGE TURNERS: 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Gulf Breeze Library, the fiction book club meets on the second Friday of every other month for a brown bag lunch and book discussion. This month's selection is “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee. There is a limit of 20 participants, so call or visit the library to sign up.

GAME NIGHT: 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at Jay Library, bring games from home or play those provided by the library. All ages and game groups are welcome.

ANIMANGA CLUB: 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Gulf Breeze Library, bring your art; discuss techniques of drawing, cartooning, anime and manga, as well as your favorite titles and artists in those genres. Open to sixth- through eighth-graders. Join us on July 17 for a special two hour meeting as we watch Miguel journey to the Land of the Dead. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library.

NAVARRE AUTHORS CLUB: 4 p.m., Oct. 17 at the Navarre Library, 8484 James M. Harvell Road. Join other local authors; topics of discussion will include everything from the writing process to how a new author can be published.

THIRD THURSDAYS WITH YOUR COUNTY MASTER GARDENER: 11 a.m. Oct. 18, the county master gardeners will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your gardening life. This month’s topic, “Fall Vegetable Gardening,” will be presented by Norene Gideon.

THIRD FRIDAYS WITH UF/IFAS EXTENSION: 1 p.m. Oct. 19, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents “Wildflowers – On Our Roadside & for Your Yard” by Suzanne Spencer, Florida master gardener, at the Gulf Breeze Library.

ROBOTICS AND TECH FOR TWEENS & TEENS: 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Gulf Breeze Library, tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, Arduino, virtual reality, and all things tech-related are invited to join us for a robotics and tech club. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month. Beginners through expert level are welcome.

BIBLIOBABBLERS TEEN BOOK CLUB: 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Gulf Breeze library, ninth through 12th graders who are 14-18 years old can discuss the read-of-the-month with friends at the Gulf Breeze Library. Bibliobabblers meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month. This month’s book is “Children of Blood and Bone” by Tomi Adeyemi.

GRAPHIC NOVEL BOOK CLUB: 5 p.m. Oct. 23 at Milton library, join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Milton Library on the fourth Wednesday each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month's selection is “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. We will be watching “Coraline” based off Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel as part of the Fright Night Movies series during this month’s meeting. Visit the library to register.

FRIGHT NIGHT MOVIES: 5 p.m. the last two weeks of October Friends of the Milton Library will present the following movies at the Milton Library:

  • Oct. 23: Coraline (rated PG)
  • Oct. 24: Pride & Prejuditce & Zombies (rated PG-13)
  • Oct. 30: I Am Legend (rated PG-13)
  • Oct. 31: A Quiet Place (rated PG-13)

FRIENDS OF THE MILTON LIBRARY FALL BOOK SALE: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 27 join the Friends of the Milton Library for their book sale in the Milton Library meeting room. There is something for everyone, so check us out. This event is free and open to the public.

FICTION FANATICS BOOK CLUB: 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Navarre library, join the Fiction Fanatics for stimulating conversations about popular works of fiction, at 4 p.m. on the fourth Friday of every month (except May and November). This month's selection is “Gwendy’s Button Box” by Stephen King.. Speak to a staff member to reserve a copy.

FRIENDS OF THE PACE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING: 5:30 p.m. second Tuesdays of every other month at the Pace Library, 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd. Details: www.friendsofpacelibrary.org.

CREEPY CRITTERS ANIMAL SHOW: 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Gulf Breeze Library, see the Creepy Critters Animal Show to learn how some less-than-cuddly and icky creatures serve an important purpose to the environment. Get hands-on with several animals. See a staff member for more information.

FALL INTO FUN: 1 p.m. Oct. 31 Fall into fun at your local library. Enjoy snacks, activities and more. Costumes are encouraged. See a staff member for more information.
