County property owners to get discount for green projects

MILTON — Join the UF/IFAS Santa Rosa County Extension office, 6263 Dogwood Drive in Milton, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sept. 22 for their first "Introduction to Green Infrastructure" workshop. Two additional workshops will be held Oct. 13 and Nov. 8.

Green infrastructure is the use of vegetation, soils, and other elements and practices to restore some of the natural processes required to manage water and create healthier urban environments.

This program will focus on rain gardens, rain barrels, swales as well as best management practices for property owners. Residents who have experienced flooding are encouraged to attend to learn techniques to manage stormwater in their landscapes through presentations on local waterbodies, impacts to these coastal areas and green infrastructure techniques. After the presentations, participants will travel to local sites to observe examples of green infrastructure projects.

The SRC Stormwater Solutions Program will offer six reimbursement incentives to property owners who attend this program. Participation is required to qualify for up to $200 reimbursement incentive to install a green infrastructure project on your property.
