MILTON — Richard Lowery was recently evicted from his home due to new property owners not accepting section 8 housing. However, Lowery hasn't let his dream die of owning a seafood restaurant — Poseidon’s Cavern.
Lowery said he has only had two dreams in his life: opening a restaurant or becoming a pilot. Lowrey said he was in flight school but the cost became to high so he was forced to stop. Lowrey also recently found out he will have to move from his current residence of Piney Wood Apartments due to a change in owners which no longer accepts section 8 housing. He said that this was the time to focus on this dream.
“I’m tired of my dreams not working,” Lowrey said. “I decided to go for it.”
Lowrey said he chose the name “Poseidon’s Cavern” as the working title for his restaurant because he loved the ocean.
“I’m a fish person,” he said. “I love being in the water.”
Lowrey said while the theme for the restaurant will be the sea, he will not focus only on seafood. He wants to combine different cuisines from around the world to give patrons a wide variety of choices with an eye-catching aquatic surrounding. One key element he wants to have is a scuba diving tank inside the restaurant, though he admits that likely won’t happen in his very first restaurant.
“It’s a focused dream,” he said, “but it has many parts.”
Lowrey, a certified scuba diver, said there is nothing more exhilarating than being able to scuba dive and he wants to share his experience with as many people as he can.
Lowrey said he has been in contact with two investment companies who like his ideas but said he needs collateral before they will invest. He's trying to earn $200,000.
Lowrey hopes to have the first restaurant built in five years. He hopes to turn his dream into a chain opening locations in Pensacola, Milton, Orlando, California, Texas, Washington DC, and New York.
