MILTON — Pace resident Susan Neal presents healthy eating and exercise habits mixed with Christian study in a new series of books and other resources.

Neal, who has lived in Pace for over 20 years, has had a career serving as a registered nurse and is a certified health and wellness coach with the American Association of Christian Counselors. Neal has worked at the Mayo Clinic, Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, and Chan’s Hospital in Jacksonville, she said.

Neal said she wrote her three books: "Scripture Yoga", "Yoga for Beginners," and her latest book, "Seven Steps for to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates," to help Americans live a healthier life.

“Unfortunately, half of Americans have a chronic illness,” Neal said. “My mission is to improve the health of the body of Christ.”

Neal said that one reason why she wrote her third book was because of her sister who is gluten intolerant.

“I developed a plan for her with seven simple steps to follow,” Neal said. “She was so successful. She was healed of so many ailments.”

Neal, who teaches a yoga class for the county, said her faith plays a part in her ability to not only write her books but teach as well. She says she recites themed-based bible verses throughout the class as part of the meditation process.

“It might be how to receive God’s peace,” She said. “So it’s all about how we cast our anxiety on Him or stress and we rely on the Lord.”

Neal said she used her nursing background to help explain medical terminology in her books in simple ways that people can understand.

Neal said her overall goal is to help people live a healthy life so that they can live an abundant life. Neal said she has some advice to all Americans before you eat anything.

“Evaluate everything you eat,” she said.

Neal teaches a free yoga class every Friday at 9 a.m. at Woodbine United Methodist Church in Pace.

"Anyone is welcome to come," Neal said. "You will improve your health and you will also hear the word of God spoken."

Seven Steps for to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates won the Selah Award at the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference. Neal will be teaching on the book at Living Truth Church every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. beginning August 15. She will be publishing the sequel book, "Christian Study Guide for 7 Steps to Get Off Sugar and Carbohydrates," in September.

Neal’s books are available for purchase at www.amazon.com or www.christianyoga.com
