PACE — County crews broke ground on a construction project to improve Floridatown Park this week. Located at 3900 Floridatown Road in Pace, the park's upgrades will include a playground compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act for children ages two through 12, a walking trail, two basketball half courts, renovations to the existing restroom, pier repairs, historical signage and ADA-accessible upgrades.
The project's estimated cost is $200,000, funded with a combination of local option sales tax, Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant funds and District 1 recreation funds.
"We are excited to offer a renovated, ADA-compliant recreational facility for our residents and their families to enjoy this beautiful waterfront park," District 1 Commissioner Sam Parker said. "Many thanks to the citizens of Santa Rosa County for supporting the local option sales tax that that helps make this and many other much-needed projects possible."
As Floridatown Park is a historically significant park, all improvements are being monitored by a professional archeologist. The anticipated project completion date is spring 2019. The park will remain open during improvements. However, certain areas may be inaccessible during construction.
