PACE — Pea Ridge Elementary student Jadylyn Minturn is working to aid local veterans in need by raising awareness of the Gulf Breeze food pantry Food for Vets. So far, through her efforts she has helped to collect over 66 pounds of food for the food pantry.
Minturn has been going to each grade at her school giving presentations on food pantries and why they are important to the community. Her inspiration was a brochure for the pantry, according to her grandmother, Navarre resident Chris Hinson.
“My husband and I are both Air Force vets," Hinson said. "We were donating and we brought a brochure to our daughter. Jadylyn saw it and was curious."
Minturn wanted to help. She started collecting food but decided that wasn't enough. So she developed a presentation and began speaking in classrooms at her school and at the Pace karate studio she attends, Martial Arts America.
“I thought maybe if I can make this big," Minturn said, "bigger things can happen. One small step makes the biggest difference. Think small, not big.”
The Food for Vets food pantry is located at 1839 Cowen Road in Gulf Breeze. Visit www.foodforvets.org for more information.
